EINSIEDELN

Lake in Einsiedeln

In the town of Einsiedeln, our magnificent residence called the Hotel Allegra (www.hotel-allegra.ch) overlooks the Sihl Sea and provides wonderful views of the high Swiss Alps. The setting is rural, a ten minute walk into town and to the Rococo Basilica of the Black Madonna. Einsiedeln is a sacred place of pilgrimage for many and is a true jewel of the Swiss countryside.

WORLD THEATER

For many years, the people of Einsiedeln put on the play "The Great Theater of the World" in front of the impressive cathedral that houses the famous Black Madonna. The play is based on the 17th Century verse drama by the Spanish playwright, Calderon de la Barca, in which God is a theater director, the world is a stage manager, and the actors - comprising archetypal figures of all humanity - must wait to see what parts they will be given. Each member of the cast then dedicates himself or herself to a given role and tries to master the baffling gift of free will. It is a universal question, a colorful meditation on mortality, morality and true values.
Tim Krohn, the current president of the association of German language writers, is responsible for the adaptation of the play in Summer 2013.
